UGREEN HDMI Extender over Ethernet 50m 1080p – CM609 UK

The UGREEN HDMI extender over Ethernet (model CM609, part no. 90811UK) is a transmitter-and-receiver kit that carries a Full HD HDMI signal up to 50 metres over a single CAT5e or CAT6 network cable. It is designed for environments where a standard HDMI cable run is not practical — large conference rooms, classrooms, auditoriums, retail digital signage, and security monitoring installations. The UK variant includes a UK-plug power adapter, making it ready to deploy in British and compatible markets without additional accessories.

The core advantage of the CM609 over a passive HDMI cable run is distance. A standard passive HDMI cable reliably carries 4K signals to around 3 metres and 1080p to approximately 10–15 metres. The CM609 extends this to 50 metres by converting the HDMI signal into a format suitable for transmission over structured Ethernet cabling — the same CAT5e or CAT6 cable already installed in most buildings for networking. Consequently, installers can use existing in-wall cable infrastructure rather than pulling new HDMI cable through walls or ceilings.

The transmitter unit connects to the HDMI source — a laptop, Blu-ray player, media server, or games console — and to the CAT cable run. The receiver unit sits at the display end and outputs a standard HDMI signal to the TV, monitor, or projector. Both units are powered via micro-USB at 5V. Additionally, EDID resolution auto-recognition means the extender negotiates the correct output resolution automatically on connection, without manual configuration. Furthermore, the aluminium alloy housing provides passive heat dissipation suited to 24/7 continuous operation in security and signage applications.

Cable requirement: A good-quality CAT6 cable with a solid copper core is required for reliable operation at 50 metres. CAT6 cables with copper-clad aluminium (CCA) conductors may not perform reliably at the full rated distance. Additionally, the combined length of the HDMI input cable (source to transmitter) and output cable (receiver to display) should not exceed 10 metres each.

Use Cases and Applications

Conference Rooms and Boardrooms

A presenter’s laptop or PC typically sits at a desk or lectern that is 10–30 metres from the projection screen or display wall. Running a new HDMI cable across a finished room is disruptive and rarely practical. The CM609 uses the existing CAT6 data cabling in the room instead, with the transmitter placed near the source and the receiver mounted at the display. EDID auto-detection means any laptop connecting to the transmitter receives the correct resolution signal without adjusting display settings manually.

Classrooms and Lecture Theatres

Educational environments frequently require a teacher’s workstation to connect to a projector or interactive display mounted at the front of the room. The CM609 supports this over runs of up to 50 metres, covering even large lecture theatres. The plug-and-play design means teaching staff can connect and disconnect without IT support. Furthermore, 24/7-rated operation means the unit functions reliably through multiple daily sessions without requiring power cycling.

Digital Signage and Retail Displays

Retail environments and public venues use digital signage displays mounted on walls or ceilings at significant distances from the media player driving the content. The CM609 allows the media player to be positioned in a secure backroom or AV rack and the signal to be distributed to the display location over the building’s structured cabling. The aluminium alloy housing and continuous-duty rating additionally make it suited to permanent, unattended installations where reliability over extended periods is essential.
