Many laptop upgrades involve replacing a B+M Key SATA M.2 drive with a faster NVMe model. Rather than discarding the old drive, the CM400 (10903) houses it as a portable external SSD. At 5Gbps, a SATA III drive operating through UASP achieves sustained transfer rates of 400–500 MB/s — substantially faster than a traditional USB external hard drive. Furthermore, the aluminium enclosure’s passive cooling keeps the drive at safe operating temperatures during extended transfers.

Portable Backup and File Transfer

The CM400 (10903) suits any workflow requiring a compact, high-speed backup drive. A 500GB M.2 SATA SSD installed in the enclosure provides both the speed and the capacity to serve as a full system backup destination, a media transfer drive on location, or an archive drive for completed projects. The 50cm USB-A to USB-C cable connects directly to desktop computers, older laptops with USB-A ports, and USB-A hubs without requiring an adapter.

Important Notes

• SATA NGFF only. The CM400 (10903) does not support NVMe PCIe SSDs. Drives such as the Samsung 970 EVO Plus and WD Black SN750 are NVMe and require the CM400 (10902) enclosure instead.
• New drives should be reformatted before first use. Format to exFAT for cross-platform compatibility between Windows and macOS.
• Only a USB-A to USB-C cable is included. A USB-C to USB-C cable is not provided. Users connecting to a USB-C-only laptop will need a separate USB-C to USB-C cable or adapter.
• Always eject safely from the host OS before disconnecting. Do not disconnect during active data transfer.
• Back up important data before installing a drive. UGREEN does not accept liability for data loss.
