Microsoft Windows Server 2025 Standard | 16-Core DVD Pack
The most modern, AI-ready server OS built on Windows 11
Microsoft Windows Server 2025 is the fourteenth major release of the Windows Server platform and the first ever based on Windows 11, version 24H2. Released on November 1, 2024, it delivers forward-looking security, AI-ready compute, and seamless hybrid cloud integration. The 16-core DVD pack provides the minimum core-based licensing for a standard dual-processor server, delivered on physical installation media with a Certificate of Authenticity.
What is Included
16-Core License
-
Covers a minimum of 16 physical processor cores (the baseline requirement for any Windows Server 2025 Standard deployment)
-
Core-based licensing model: all physical cores must be licensed, with a minimum of 8 cores per processor and 16 cores per server
-
Core licenses are sold in packs of two; this pack contains eight 2-core licenses
-
Licensed for one physical server only
Physical DVD Media
-
Installation DVD with both Standard and Datacenter editions
-
Certificate of Authenticity (COA) with product key
-
Two installation options:
-
Server Core – Recommended minimal installation with no local GUI, managed via PowerShell or Windows Admin Center
-
Server with Desktop Experience – Full graphical user interface with a consistent Windows 11-style client and server UI, now including Wi-Fi and Bluetooth conveniences
-
Core Features
Advanced Multilayer Security
-
Next-Generation Active Directory Domain Services with improved security and scalability, including NUMA support that enables AD to use CPUs across all processor groups beyond 64 cores
-
Delegated Managed Service Accounts (dMSA) enable migration from traditional service accounts to fully randomized, managed keys with minimal application changes
-
Hypervisor-Enforced Paging Translation (HVPT) guards critical system data structures and page tables from write-what-where attacks; enabled by default where hardware supports it
-
Hypervisor-Protected Code Integrity (HVCI) and Virtualization-Based Security (VBS) for kernel-level protection
-
Tailored Security Baseline with drift protection configurable from installation
Hybrid Cloud & Azure Integration
-
Azure Arc integration for unified management of on-premises, multi-cloud, and edge servers
-
Azure Automanage support for automated configuration and patching

SMB over QUIC for secure, high-performance file sharing over untrusted networks
-
Pay-as-you-go subscription option available for flexible licensing
-
Server Flighting capability to upgrade to new releases via Windows Update
Server Virtualization
-
Rights for up to 2 Operating System Environments (OSEs) or 2 Hyper-V containers with Hyper-V isolation
-
Unlimited Windows Server containers without Hyper-V isolation
-
Dynamic Processor Compatibility updated to use the maximum processor features available across all servers in a cluster, improving performance over previous compatibility modes
-
Generation 2 VMs now set as the default in Hyper-V Manager
-
GPU Partitioning for AI inferencing at the edge
Performance & Storage

Accelerated Networking (preview) simplifies SR-IOV management for VMs, reducing latency, jitter, and CPU utilization
-
Flash-based storage improvements make Windows Server an even better platform for SQL Server workloads
-
Faster and easier networking with modern protocol enhancements
Management & Platform
-
Windows Package Manager for streamlined software deployment
-
Windows Admin Center browser-based out-of-band management
-
Performance Counters expanded for DC Locator, LSA Lookups, and LDAP client monitoring

System Requirements
| Component | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Processor | x86-64-v2 with SSE4.2 (Intel Nehalem or AMD Bulldozer or newer) |
| RAM | 512 MB for Server Core; 2 GB for Server with Desktop Experience |
| Storage | 32 GB minimum free space |
| Display | 1024 x 768 resolution |
| Network | 1 Gbps Ethernet or 802.11 wireless adapter |
| Firmware | UEFI 2.3.1c with Secure Boot support |
| Security | TPM 2.0 |
Licensing & CAL Requirements
-
Client Access Licenses (CALs) required for every user or device accessing the server (sold separately)
-
Remote Desktop Services (RDS) CALs required separately for remote desktop functionality
-
Software Assurance recommended for Azure Hybrid Benefit, reassignment rights, and Server Flighting upgrades
-
License is non-transferable between servers unless reassignment rights are purchased
Important Notes
-
Physical Media: DVD pack includes installation media and Certificate of Authenticity (COA)
-
16-Core Minimum: Even if your server has fewer than 16 cores, you must license a minimum of 16 cores
-
Additional Cores: Servers with more than 16 cores require additional 2-core packs
-
Virtualization Limits: Running more than 2 virtual OSEs requires licensing all physical cores again for each additional 1 or 2 VMs
-
First Windows 11-Based Server: Delivers the modern Windows 11 kernel and UI consistency to the server platform
-
Support Lifecycle: Mainstream support until October 2030; extended support until October 2035
