Ubiquiti UniFi Enterprise 48 PoE Switch (USW-Enterprise-48-PoE)

Overview

The UniFi Switch Enterprise 48 PoE (USW-Enterprise-48-PoE) delivers a configurable, fully managed Layer 3 switching platform. It powers modern enterprise environments demanding high-density multi-gigabit connectivity. Additionally, it provides substantial PoE power delivery for large-scale deployments. This 1U rack-mountable solution features forty-eight 2.5GbE PoE+ ports and four 10G SFP+ uplinks. Consequently, it excels in WiFi 6/6E deployments, professional AV installations, and bandwidth-intensive applications.

Port Configuration

The switch provides forty-eight auto-sensing 2.5GbE RJ45 ports. These support 2.5G/1G/100M/10M connectivity speeds. Every port delivers 802.3at PoE+ power up to 34.2W. Therefore, you can directly connect and power high-performance access points, cameras, and other PoE-enabled devices. No additional injectors are required.
Four 10G SFP+ ports supply high-speed fiber uplink options. You can connect these to core switches or network aggregation points. These ports support both 1G and 10G optics. As a result, you gain flexibility for various fiber infrastructure requirements. Additionally, they enable long-distance campus connections.

Power Delivery

A substantial 720W total PoE budget powers multiple high-wattage devices. This budget spans all forty-eight ports simultaneously. The internal 870W AC/DC power supply accepts universal 100–240V AC input. Consequently, you achieve global deployment compatibility.
Maximum power consumption reaches 150W without PoE loads. However, it scales to 870W under full utilization. Heat dissipation measures 511.8 BTU/hr excluding PoE output. For mission-critical environments, USP-RPS DC input support is included. Therefore, you can connect to the UniFi SmartPower Redundant Power System. This intelligent redundancy automatically detects power supply failures. Moreover, it seamlessly switches to backup power without service interruption.

Performance Architecture

The switch delivers 160 Gbps total non-blocking throughput. Additionally, it provides 320 Gbps switching capacity. The forwarding rate reaches 238.095 Mpps. This architecture guarantees all ports operate at full wire speed simultaneously. Consequently, you experience no packet loss or congestion.
A 32,000-entry MAC address table supports large-scale deployments. Therefore, you can connect extensive device populations. The non-blocking design ensures consistent, predictable performance. This is essential for video streaming and VoIP communications. Moreover, it benefits real-time data processing and high-resolution surveillance applications.

Layer 3 Routing

Advanced Layer 3 functionality includes DHCP server capabilities. You can assign IP addresses directly to local network segments. Inter-VLAN routing improves performance and reduces latency. This occurs compared to routing through external devices. Static routing provides precise control over network traffic paths. Access control lists deliver granular traffic filtering. Furthermore, they enforce security policies at the switch level.

AV Integration

Specialized Pro AV profiles optimize network performance. These support industry-standard protocols including Play, Dante, Q-SYS, NDI, SDVoE, Shure, AES67, and Crestron. Consequently, you achieve reliable, low-latency audio and video transport. This is ideal for conference rooms and auditoriums. Moreover, it benefits broadcast facilities and entertainment venues where timing precision is critical.

Network Features

Advanced IGMP configuration includes querier functionality. Additionally, it provides fast leave capabilities and router port settings. Therefore, you achieve efficient multicast traffic handling. MAC-based and IP-based ACLs enable device isolation. They also provide network segmentation. DHCP snooping and guarding protect against rogue servers. Moreover, they prevent man-in-the-middle attacks. Multicast and broadcast rate limiting prevents flooding. MAC-based port restriction controls which devices access specific ports.

Management

A 1.3-inch color touchscreen LCM display provides instant system status. It shows port activity, PoE consumption metrics, and diagnostic information. This display supports AR switch management when used with the UniFi Network mobile app. Consequently, you can visualize and interact with network topology directly from the switch location.
Full UniFi Network Controller integration enables centralized configuration. You can monitor multiple sites from a single interface. Deep packet inspection identifies bandwidth utilization by application and protocol. Therefore, you can optimize network performance based on data-driven insights.

Physical Design

The switch measures 442 × 400 × 44 mm. It weighs 6.2 kg without mounting brackets. With brackets, the weight is 6.3 kg. The SGCC steel enclosure provides durability. Additionally, it offers electromagnetic interference protection. Supported rack depths range from 600mm to 1200mm.

Environmental Specs

Operating temperature ranges from -5°C to 40°C. Humidity levels of 10–90% noncondensing are supported. Robust ESD protection includes ±16kV air discharge. Additionally, ±12kV contact discharge ratings are provided. Certifications include CE, FCC, IC, and Anatel.

Important Considerations

This switch provides PoE+ (802.3at) power only. It delivers up to 34.2W per port. It does not support PoE++ (802.3bt). That standard delivers 60W or 100W. Consequently, the latest UniFi 7 (U7) and Enterprise 7 (E7) access points are incompatible. These require PoE++ power. For U7 and E7 deployments, you should use Enterprise Campus switches with PoE++ support.

Deployment Scenarios

Large-Scale WiFi 6/6E Deployments — Forty-eight 2.5GbE PoE+ ports eliminate bandwidth bottlenecks. The 720W power budget supports dozens of access points.
Professional AV Installations — Dedicated Pro AV profiles ensure reliable transport. Optimized multicast handling benefits conference facilities and broadcast studios.
Enterprise Campus Networks — Layer 3 routing and 10G uplinks support scalable architectures. Redundant power options span multiple buildings.
High-Density Surveillance — 2.5GbE ports accommodate 4K and 8K video streams. Extensive PoE port density supports camera deployments.

The UniFi Switch Enterprise 48 PoE combines forty-eight multi-gigabit PoE+ ports with substantial power delivery. It includes Layer 3 intelligence and professional AV optimization. This compact, manageable platform represents an ideal foundation for modern enterprise networks.
